Media workshops for youth and adults. We organize workshops for groups of students or young people who are interested in the expressive elements employed by cinema and TV. Image, still and moving, sound, speech and graphics are transformed to communication tools. We have developed and refined these exercises over a period of years in various age groups as well as connected them with other aspects of formal and non-formal learning. In 2014-2015 were supported by SONY with their specialized audiovisual equipment. You can watch some of the works produced here.

K arpos was founded in Athens, in 2008 to gather competencies and ideas in the field of Media and Education. We strongly believe that, image and sound “texts” need to be better understood, as more people of all ages realise the strength of media around them and want to develop visual narratives themselves. Following our experience with the nation wide MELINA Project for the Arts in Education (1996-2004) and the European project Children in Communication about Migration (2002-04) we collaborate with various organisations for teacher training in Media Education.

We organise and run media workshops for youth groups in and outside schools in collaboration with teachers, libraries and parents. We have trained over 2200 teachers and professors as well as over 6000 youth from 5 to 17 years old.

We have long lasting collaborations with the: Greek National Educational Television, Network for Theater in Education, Primary and Secondary Education Authority of Evia and East Attica, University of Athens, Education of Roma kids program, World Wide Fund, British Council. We have participated in writing national school curriculums (2012, 2016) about the use of media language and documentary. We designed and provided content for several international media projects: "Videomuseums", "North Aegean Narratives", "Film Literacy Advisory Group (FLAG)" and the "Youthdocs". The "Videomouseums" were selected by Evens Foundation and the JFF Institute for Media Research and Media Education, as one of the 12 best European action plans in audiovisual education during 2011-13.

We develop a site with freely accessible material for people who are interested in applying media literacy activities. Our activities, accessible in pdf files are described in a friendly, accessible manner with examples.

The methodology, to our knowledge, is original and is applied in various groups before being recorded and uploaded. So far only partly translated in English. Since 2014 we produced four video tutorials addressing students, teachers and youth trainers (1-2: best practices in shooting and sound recording, 3-4: making documentaries and collective videos on teenage issues).
