ERASMUS+ 2019 - 2021
Karpos is part of the european project Speak Up-Media For Inclusion which answers the needs of today’s society for a smooth integration of young refugees/migrants to their host countries through the use of audiovisual production and media literacy. Τhe project is implemented by 6 organizations across 5 different European countries: ERIM and Réseau Raje, both French organizations, will be leading the project working together with FORMA.Azione (Italy), NextStep! (Hungary), Common Frames (Netherlands) and Karpos (Greece).

SPEAK UP FESTIVAL
In November 2021 Karpos organized the 3 day Speak Up Festival, as part of the project Speak Up Festival-Media For Inclusion, during which the short films of our students were presented in a special screening at Ethnofest, we had a panel discussion with journalists of how refugees are represented in the Media and we closed out the festival with a masterclass on how it is to work with moving populations and what can we do to make the experience better for them. "How are the refugees presented by the media in Greece"
The first day of the festival we presented the Manifesto for journalists and content creators that was created by 25 experts from the 5 countries that participate in the project. You can download it here.
The Manifesto contains guidelines, good practices and ways to avoid reproducing negative stereotypes in the Media when we refer to moving populations and to adopt a more inclusive rhetoric. At the end of the event we had a panel with 3 journalists, Elvira Krithari, Stavros Malichudis, and Myrto Symenonidou and they discussed their experience covering the migration and refugee issue in Greece. Present in the panel was one of the journalists from Migratory Birds, that as a refugee herself had the opportunity to express herself through the magazine.
"Speak Up Screenings"
The 12 films of our students were presented during the Ethnofest festival in Athens. Emotions ran high during the evening as the creators saw their films on the big screen for the first time and had the opportunity to talk to the audience about them . At the end of the screening a small award ceremony took place where some of the students were given awards by the European jury that contained jurors from all the countries participating in the project.

Sunday 28/11 - Cultural Center "Melina"
Karpos' head of programs and educator Maria Leonida with the director and media artist Maria Pesli that were responsible for the workshops during the project, discussed about their work with their students, the new ways they had to invent how to implement audiovisual workshops during the lockdown and in the end of the masterclass the students themselves talked about their experience during the workshops.
SPEAK UP PHOTO CONTEST
1st Prize - Khatireh Vaziri (Greece) - ‘’M’’ as we say mother. She is with her child in the most difficult situations.
2nd prize - Lana Shekh Alhaddadin (The Netherlands) – This picture shows my little brother with my neighbour. Since we are in The Netherlands she has been a great help for us. For me, this is what means 'living together'.
3rd Prize - Catherine John (Hungary) - The picture is about foreigners living in a small city called Godollo, who participate in a community garden project that supply fresh food to the community members. They also participate in intercultural programmes.
4th Prize - Alan Mohamad (Netherlands) - This photo shows clothing of the Kurdish people, living in 4 countries (Iraq, Syria, Iran and Turkey). The couple on the photo met online and married after five years of online love in Germany. Living together.
Webinar for educators
On November 13, 2020 we implemented a webinar for 27 teachers and trainers. The purpose of this webinar was to train them in media literacy and video making. This training was divided into 2 hours, in the first hour we focused on the media literacy part using as a tool the award-winning workshop ''An object in 5 ways". This workshop was the first to be held online and from the reactions of the participants we saw that the transition to the online form was successful.
In the second hour of the training using the short documentary Portrait Day (2019, directed by Maria Leonida) we examined the following:
-the construction of an audiovisual creation
-the relationship between the creativity and the intentions of the creator and the feelings and thoughts of the viewer
-how a shot can promote the story
-how a short film can be designed to be shot in a short amount of time
-presentation and selection of data from the guide for creating short films by our partners in the program from the Netherlands Common Frames.
